Private Ghost Tour of Hampton Court Palace
Get into the spirit of Halloween by joining us for an evening exploring the haunted history of Hampton Court Palace! This SJWWC private ghost tour will begin after the palace is closed to the public, leading you through darkened corridors and historic courtyards, where ghostly legends and royal tragedies linger.

Our expert guide will share chilling tales of some of the palace’s most famous—and infamous—residents, including: Catherine Howard, Henry VIII’s ill-fated fifth wife, Jane Seymour, Henry’s beloved third wife, Sybil Penn, the “Grey Lady,” and King Henry VIII himself, whose formidable presence and turbulent reign left a lasting impression—both in history and, some believe, in spirit.

This after-hours experience offers a rare chance to see the palace in near silence, where the echoes of the past come chillingly to life.

We will meet at Waterloo Station (national rail section) at 4:15 PM and take the SWR train to Hampton Court station. Hampton Court Station is in zone 6. Oyster/credit cards are accepted on this route and you can just tap in and out like an underground journey.

We'll arrive at 5:15 pm to Hampton Court station and take a short walk to the Muted Swan pub for a "spirit" or two before we start our tour across the street at the palace at 6:30 for a 90 minute tour. The tour will take us inside and outside across the palace grounds so please dress in weather appropriate attire and comfortable shoes.

Post-tour, attendees have the option of popping back to the pub for a nightcap or heading to the train station where trains run back to Waterloo station every 30 minutes.

Please dress weather appropriate for an indoor and outdoor tour. The price of the trip does not include your journey from Waterloo to Hampton Court station (you can just tap in and out like an underground journey). Consider having a hearty snack before heading out as there will be limited time at the pub before the we head to the palace and will not be done until about 8:15 PM

Visit British sculptor and artist Henry Moore's house, studios, and outdoor sculpture garden. at Perry Green outside London.

Experience Henry Moore’s iconic work with a visit to the artist’s former home. On seventy acres of Hertford farmland, we will tour his house, wander the workshops in the barns, and traipse the countryside to view his large and magnificent sculptures in green fields, amongst the sheep.

Moore moved to his house Hoglands in Hertfordshire with his wife Irina in 1940, they set about adapting the gardens to this purpose. Over the years, they transformed adjacent rough farmland to create our sculpture gardens, which now cover almost 70 acres of lawns, orchard, woodland and sheep fields.

Moore found inspiration in nature and he used the land around his home as a practical working space. This emphasised the connection between his sculpture and the landscape.

Each year, around twenty of Moore’s sculptures are displayed in the gardens. Many more can be found inside the studios. Many of these are the artist’s own casts, which he entrusted to the Foundation’s care.

The house tour is 30-35 minutes. We will have lunch (included in the event price). Then 90-minute tour of studios and gardens. Dress suitably for the weather. We will be outside much of the day, and wear shoes for uneven surfaces and gardens/fields that may be wet.

Princess Diana’s family owns Spencer House -- a rare survivor of the great aristocratic palaces that once adorned London. Built in 1756-66 for the First Lord and Lady Spencer in a prime location overlooking Green Park, the house immediately became an important architectural landmark whilst the spectacular suite of State Rooms has played host to the social, political and cultural elite of each generation.

Spend an enlightening hour with an expert Blue Badge guide who will lead you on a tour of the State Rooms and bring the house alive as they explain the history of its architecture, interiors, and the seven generations of the Spencer family who lived here. Some of you may remember Diana’s fabled ancestor Georgiana, the Dutchess of Devonshire – society hostess and effective political influencer.  With an impressive restoration (1985-1994,) Spencer House can once again be experienced in all its Georgian splendor including a significant collection of paintings and furniture.

Spencer House is steps from Buckingham Palace and stories claim that when Lady Di was dating then Prince Charles and the paparazzi were thronging outside “Buck House”, she fled to safety through a secret back gate into her family’s garden.  And, you must visit the loo to see a delightful doll house.

This is a gem – easy to get to, Georgian era of “Bridgerton” and “Queen Charlotte”, and historically interesting.  We have 15 tickets. If it fills, we can book a second tour at the same time if we get another 15 people, so please join the waitlist.

First launched in 2001, the Spirit of Christmas Fair in partnership with House & Garden magazine was created to celebrate and showcase the very best of independent brands and small businesses, offering a unique and magical shopping experience to be enjoyed on your own or with friends and family.

While the Fair has grown and evolved over the past 23 years, the  mission to capture the true Spirit of Christmas has remained at the heart, with the very own original slogan of 'SHOP. DINE. SOCIALISE' still firmly in its place today.

But shopping is just the beginning at Spirit. Each day at the Fair offers plenty to do with complimentary Spirit Inspirations, talks from special guests and live music from exciting bands. The  diverse dining options including all-day tapas or Afternoon Tea ensure you won’t be leaving hungry, and cuvees from Louis Roederer’s champagne bars offer the perfect pause for refreshment. Your ticket to Spirit also grants you free access to the co-located Fair: The Luxury Travel Fair so you may want to spread your time across more than one day to take advantage of everything on offer.

At Spirit of Christmas, you’ll not only leave with bags full of incredible gifts and inspiration, but with a renewed love for the festive season ahead.

We can  meet as a group at the St John's Wood tube station and travel together to the Fair (around 9:30 am), or you can make your way to the Fair on your own.  The Fair runs from 10 am to 6pm. Travel home is whenever you are finished shopping.  Please note, your travel to and from the Fair is not included in the event price.

We'll take in the London skyline and then visit the dog-friendly Saturday market to stock up for the week. Dress for the weather as we'll go rain or shine. Please contact me if running late.

We have simplified this trip to be more like a city break.

You will have free time for Xmas markets and optional tours.

Copenhagen is a place completely at ease with itself. It offers the weekender gourmet dining, shopping for cutting edge designer goods, excellent nightlife and, particularly in mid-winter, an all-enveloping sense of hygge. Hygge - a word that's difficult enough to pronounce ('hooga', is a good approximation), let alone define, but easiest explained as 'cosiness'. Hygge evolved as a mechanism to help the locals cope with the dark winter months and while you may not be able to put your finger on it, hygge will be all around, in candle-lit restaurants and snug subterranean bars, making the whole city even more alluring in winter. Copenhagen will be decked out in holiday decorations and markets during our visit. There will be multiple opportunities to shop including an afternoon at Tivoli Gardens, one of CNN’s world’s best Christmas markets.

    • Baker Street Underground Station, in front of the Sherlock Holmes Statue
    • 11

Join us to discover the origins of the world’s first Underground network.

This guided tour explores closed-off parts of the station including original platforms, disused lift shafts and corridors that are hidden in plain sight - some of which were last accessed by the public over 75 years ago in 1945. You’ll learn about the station’s history as the Operational Headquarters for London Underground, and hear first-hand accounts from those who worked (and played) there over the years.

Along the way, you’ll hear what the very first passengers thought of underground travel in 1863, how the Underground grew and expanded over the next 16 decades, and how Baker Street served not only passengers, but also London Underground staff.

The tour will last approximately 85 minutes and will involve walking for most of that time.  There are a number of stairs on the tour.  The tour will include access to confined areas which may be unsuitable for people with claustrophobia.  There are areas which will have low lighting and may be dusty.  Please wear flat/sturdy shoes, no large or heavy bags allowed.

Photo ID MUST be brought on the day
